Blair Youth Shooting Sports (BYSS) and Fremont trap team competitors are among the 2,400 expected to shoot Thursday through Saturday during the 54th Annual Cornhusker Trap Shoot in Doniphan.
The Nebraska Trapshooting Association hosts the regional event for students in grades 6-12. Young marksmen and women from Missouri, Colorado, Kansas and South Dakota typically shoot alongside Nebraskans during the competition.
More than 900 junior high and 1,500 high school students are expected to participate, according to a Nebraska Game & Parks release.
“It’s exciting to see the dedication and talent of these young people,” said Rachel Carlson, shoot director of the Game and Parks Commission. “This event is a celebration of the competition season, and we are proud to consistently see it as one of the largest youth events in the state.”
Junior BYSS and Fremont trapshooters begin competition with 16-yard targets 8 a.m. Thursday before Senior division competitors take aim Friday and Saturday at the same time. The Seniors will shoot 75 16-yard targets first before 75 targets from handicap distances on the next day, Saturday.
The Cornhusker Cup awaits the high school shooter with the highest combined score at the end of the weekend.
BYSS' Tyler Hume, Riley Brodersen, Triston Clausen, Harry Kies, Kalvin Kies and Elijah Tabor all left the 53rd Annual Cornhusker Trap Shoot with Senior division medals last year. Anissa Hill was Blair's top female finisher, too, while Brayden Stonehocker of Arlington and the Fremont trap team earned 10th during the Junior shoot.
