Eagles Jacob Meehan and Josh Hamre medaled Thursday during the Arlington Invitational at River Wilds Golf Club.
Both golfers started their rounds in a steady rain, but finished tied for second and 12th, respectively, with 80 and 85 strokes. Coach Landon Walkenhorst's standouts knew what to expect in the wet conditions.
First, Meehan and Hamre anticipated slower greens at the 18-hole course north of Blair.
“In the rough, you've got to club-up really hard because thick rough catches really bad, especially when it's wet,” Meehan added.
Sand, he noted, wouldn't be fun to play out of either.
“Bunkers get wet and they are sticky,” the AHS golfer said. “It's really tough to get out.”
All told, though, it's not unexpected to play in tough weather during the spring golf season.
“It's a normal day,” Hamre said. “It's not too bad.”
Meehan birdied on hole No. 3, while also shooting par on nine more. Hamre, meanwhile, carded a 13th-hole birdie to go with five pars.
Tyler Anthofer shot an 18-hole 101 for the Eagles as well. Nate Erwin carded 120 strokes in his second varsity tournament of the year, while Ben Stork finished with 124 swings, too.
Notably, Logan View's Drew Hagerbaumer finished with the overall low score of Arlington's tournament — 76 strokes. His team was third behind first-place Fremont Bergan (327 strokes) and second-place Yutan (330).
Coach Walkenhorst's team was eighth with 386 swings. It next plays 9 a.m. Thursday during the Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament at Syracuse Country Club.

AHS, FCHS compete in North Bend
Hamre carded 78 strokes April 24, too, finishing 11th as both AHS and Fort Calhoun played 18 holes at the North Bend Golf Course.
Coach Walkenhorst's squad finished with 388 swings overall, while Fort Calhoun carded 372. The Pioneers' Jayden Miller led coach Dustin Humphrey's team with 89 strokes, while Owen Miller finished 18 holes with 90.
FCHS' Beau Ruma added 94 swings, too, while both Adam Elofson and Caden Newman carded 99s.
In addition to Hamre's top-15 finish, Meehan finished with 80 strokes in North Bend. His teammates, Stork and Johnathan Taylor, finished with 115 apiece, too.
North Bend Central, meanwhile, won its home tournament with just 299 strokes — a school record. Jake Wright shot the team-low 72.
