FCHS plays 18 in Hooper
Owen Miller played Elkhorn Valley Golf Club's nine holes twice Tuesday, leading the Fort Calhoun Pioneers with an 18-hole score of 87 strokes.
The Hastings College recruit finished 27th overall out of 70 golfers, helping coach Dustin Humphrey's team to a 11th-place finish during the 15-team Logan View Invite. The Pioneers concluded the tournament with 397 strokes, which was 87 behind the first-place Raiders' Blue lineup.
Jayden Miller, meanwhile, finished with 94 strokes for FCHS. Beau Ruma added 103, too, carding a birdie on hole No. 8 before knocking down a 25-foot putt on No. 9.
“Maybe longer,” he said of the putt.
The Pioneers' Caden Newman took 113 swings to finish 18 holes, while Adam Elofson had 115, too.
The event's overall medalist was Tekamah-Herman's Brody Rogers, who finished with 70 strokes — one less than Boston Bojanski of Fremont Bergan.
Fort Calhoun was scheduled to compete again during the Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament on Thursday and next plays May 9 at Northridge Country Club in Tekamah.

Bears compete at EMC Tourney
Blair boys golf coach Ross Udey reported a tough outing with a few holes to go Tuesday at Woodland Hills Golf Course near Eagle.
The Bears finished seventh out of nine teams at the Eastern Midlands Conference (EMC) Championships with 390 strokes, but there were some bright spots.
“Aaron Hinman and Justin Bird, pretty good day,” Udey said in an email.
Hinman shot BHS' low score, finishing with 93 strokes. The Bears' No. 1 player, Bode Soukup, added 94 and Bird finished with 96.
Rylan Blattert totaled 107 swings for Udey's team, too, as Degan Dresden carded 131 on the heavily wooded course.
Norris, meanwhile, won the EMC title with 303 strokes to the Elkhorn North Wolves' 304. The Titans' Carson Thurber was the individual medalist, too, finishing with an 18-hole 71.
Blair was scheduled to compete Wednesday during a junior varsity tourney at Tiburon and again Thursday during a varsity tourney at Wayne Country Club. They'll next play Monday at Indian Creek Golf Course in an Elkhorn quadrangular at 3:30 p.m.
