Baseball Roundup: Fort Calhoun, Arlington play games Saturday

Blair Bear, Pioneer and Eagle matchups called off, too

The Fort Calhoun High School baseball team returned to the field Saturday after a tornado damaged homes just miles to the Pioneers' northwest Friday afternoon.
The storm forced a cancellation against Lincoln Christian, but coach Roy Prauner's team was able to compete against Omaha Concordia a day later before more rain moved into town, falling 6-3 at home.
The Pioneers acted as the away team after the game was only moved to Washington County when it was determined the Mustangs' home diamond was too wet and unplayable. Though Concordia scored first, FCHS produced a 3-1 lead with three runs during the top of the third inning.
Senior Carter Christensen scored for Prauner's squad first, reaching third on Eric Koterba's bunt and later sliding across home plate on a passed ball. He watched from the dugout as Sam Genoways manufactured the next two runs with an RBI single on a full-count pitch.
Down by a pair of runs, the Mustangs switched pitchers and didn't give up another. They took the lead with a five-run fourth inning and held of the Pioneers late.
Calhoun's AJ Duros reached base during the last-chance seventh frame when he was hit by a pitch for the fourth time in the game. Kenny Wellwood singled past the Concordia second baseman, too, but the Pioneers' rally ultimately finished up there.
FCHS was set to face Tekamah-Herman at home Monday, and it travels to Falls City today for a regular season finale. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The Pioneers then begin Class C-1 District Tournament play 3:30 p.m. Thursday against West Point-Beemer/GACC. The matchup will be contested in Malcolm.

Arlington breaks skid
Arlington snapped its eight-game losing streak Saturday at Louisville.
Coach Tyler Stender's Eagles (5-16 overall) scored three first-inning runs before coming back from a 5-3 deficit with three more in the fifth. A seventh-inning run gave AHS its two-run margin of victory.
Killian McIntosh homered and notched two Eagle RBIs, while Andy Misfeldt and Blaine Vogt produced one apiece. Like McIntosh, Vogt and Tyler Ott had a team-best two hits each.
Vogt also led Arlington on the pitching mound. He threw six innings, striking out three batters before Misfeldt relieved him with 14 pitches.
The Eagles were scheduled to host Wahoo/Neumann on Friday, too, but the decision was made by school officials to cancel it.
AHS was scheduled to close out its regular season Monday against Omaha Gross, too, and next competes 3:30 p.m. Thursday during the Class C-3 District Tournament in Central City. The Eagles face the top-seeded Kernals in the first round of the two-day tourney.

BHS games called off
Blair High School was scheduled for games both Friday and Saturday, but they were called off as a tornado arrived in Washington County, and the clean-up process began and continued through the weekend.
The Bears' Friday game at Douglas County West was called off prior to the storm's arrival. Blair Activities Director Tyler Siecke confirmed Saturday's cancellation after it was determined the schools' athletic programs would not compete on the day.
Coach John Roan's BHS squad is 8-11 this season. It was scheduled to play at Lincoln Northwest on Monday and starts Class B-6 District Tournament play Thursday against Seward. The 5:30 p.m. game will be contested on Bennington's Pruess Field.
