The Class B No. 10 Blair High School baseball team closed out its home schedule with a five-inning rout Monday.
The Bears hammered the ball early, scoring 11 runs across the first two frames, blistering Lincoln Northwest by run-rule, 13-1. BHS improved to 13-9 going into the Class B District 4 Tournament — which was set to begin Thursday at Omaha Gross — while the Northwest Falcons dropped to 3-13 overall.
Brady Brown plated Blair's first run with a stand-up double. Senior Shea Wendt then hit a triple beyond the left fielder's reach to push the Bears' lead to 2-0.
Kaden Sears added to the home team's first-inning total with a single on the ground before scoring himself on a Lincoln Northwest passed ball.
Ahead 4-0, BHS added seven more runs in the second frame. Tanner Jacobson and Greyson Kay led off with back-to-back doubles before Brown's single made the score 6-0.
The Bears' seventh and eighth runs scored on Wendt's second extra-base hit of the game, while the ninth came when the Creighton University recruit scored from third on another passed ball.
Jacobson later closed out the inning's scoring with his own two-RBI single.
Blair eventually won 13-1 after scoring a run apiece during the third and fourth frames. Wendt (three), Brown (two), Jacobson (two), Kay (one), Sears (one) and Lucas Matejka (one) finished the game with RBIs, while Brown scored a team-best three times.
The Bears were set to play Ralston during Thursday's first round of postseason play. With a win, coach John Roan's team would face top-seeded Omaha Gross at 6 p.m. today in the B-4 District Final. The Cougars are hosting no matter who they face.
