Quinn VunCannon and the Columbus Scotus Shamrocks won the Class C District 2 Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Oakland Golf Club.
The individual medalist carded 88 strokes, finishing ahead of 69 other golfers including five from coach Cailyn Ross' Arlington High School team. Aspen Smutz led the Eagles, totaling 123 swings across 18 holes. She was 40th overall, while Ally Meyer was 49th with 135.
AHS' Addie Thomas and Honora Andreasen added 136 strokes apiece, too, while Bella Wilcox notched 142 during a tournament that lasted more than 7 hours before a team-race playoff was even contested between Albion Boone Central and Columbus Lakeview for third.
The event marked the end of Arlington's season, too. It was a campaign where they all learned something about golf, from a physical skills to a mental attributes.
Smutz said she learned all about chipping this fall.
“Open your club face up and get under the ball,” she said, describing the tip that led to her improvement.
Meyer explained how she's hitting better drives.
“Not trying to kill it,” she said. “Just nice, easy swings.”
Thomas, meanwhile, built-up her putting process and described how.
“Just practicing,” she said. “And learning how to read the greens.”
Andreasen and Wilcox, meanwhile, have learned more about the mental side of the game this season.
“Persevering. I learned a lot about that this year,” Andreasen said. “I know I improved from last year, but it wasn't as obvious as I would have liked it to be. So, I had to persevere.”
Wilcox learned to not get frustrated because, if you do, you'll be prone to “worse scores.”
Tuesday's scores were the Eagles' last of the 2024 season.
