Now that he's signed with the Hastings College golf team, Blair High School senior Luke Valasek wants to be a positive influence on the Broncos' roster.
“I would like to be a good role model and help other teammates, students and classmates or whatnot,” the Bear said. “Just kind of helping them if they're in a stressful situation with personal issues or school or golf.”
Valasek made his commitment to Hastings official Friday morning with a signing ceremony inside the BHS library.
“I feel like I can just be someone they can talk to and trust as a teammate,” he said.
The golfer was close to making other college plans official before Broncos coach Skyler Good reached out. It came as a surprise to the BHS senior.
“I kind of knew, 'This is awesome and random,'” Valasek said.
He met the coach, liked what he's heard and seen about the Hastings golf program and is appreciative of the school's academic schedule and programs. He plans to study business administration.
All-in-all, the Blair Bear is excited to continue to play his game.
“It's a sport where you can play with your friends or alone,” Valasek said. “It's just something where you can forget about whatever's happening at school or whatnot. You can just play golf, and hit a ball with a club and aim toward a hole.”
