A Blair man pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in late May after being accused of violating the state’s sex offender registration laws in Burt County.

Adam Boyle, 40, entered a plea deal in front of a Burt County judge to a reduced charge of obstruction of a government operation, a Class 1 misdemeanor which carries a maximum sentence of a year in jail and/or a $10,000 fine.

Boyle’s sentencing is scheduled for July 16.

According to an arrest affidavit, Samuel Vacha, a detective from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, contacted Burt County on April 4 to report Boyle for violating sex offender registration laws by not reporting his employment in Oakland to the Burt County Sheriff's Office.

The affidavit states Boyle worked for a construction company on and off for 32 days in Burt County including work done at the Oakland Police Station and the Oakland Police Chief’s residence.

The Sex Offender Registration Act requires registrants to report to the local county sheriff where they work.

Boyle was convicted of third-degree sexual assault of a child in 2015. He was sentenced to two to five years in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for 25 years through Aug. 30, 2042.

Boyle was previously charged with violating sex offender registration laws after failing to verify his address with the Washington County Sheriff's Office in 2017.
