Friday Football Update: FCHS improves to 4-1 as Bears fall short

Arlington loses to Aquinas on Thursday

The Class C1 No. 8 Fort Calhoun football team beat Elkhorn Mount Michael convincingly Friday night, while the Class B No. 10 Blair Bears fell short at No. 2 Elkhorn North.
Arlington, meanwhile, lost a road game at David City Aquinas on Thursday.

Fort Calhoun 27, Elkhorn Mount Michael 3: Pioneers quarterback Adam Elofson connected on three touchdown passes to three different receivers as coach Zach Byrd’s squad improved to 4-1 overall. Eli Tinkham, Chase Premer and Kade Foy — who also intercepted a Knights pass — caught scoring throws, while Blake Welchert found the end zone on a 5-yard run during the first quarter. FCHS never trailed, led 13-3 at halftime and added to its lead from there in the win.

Elkhorn North 21, Blair 7: The Bears scored first, but the second-ranked team in Class B won by 14. Brock Templar tallied the only touchdown on a 3-yard run for coach Bryan Soukup’s squad. After Blaise Baughman’s extra-point kick, BHS led 7-0. It fell to 2-3 overall from there, though, as the Wolves scored three touchdowns, taking a 14-7 lead into halftime and adding its final points during the third quarter.

David City Aquinas 20, Arlington 12: The Eagles held a 12-6 halftime advantage on the road Thursday, but were shut out from there to fall to 1-4 this season. Killian McIntosh and Owen Ladehoff scored on short runs for coach Troy Schlueter’s team.
