Gutzmann receives scholarship award during Distinguished Young Women National Finals

Mobile, Ala. -- On Thursday, June 27, Ruby Gutzmann of Blair was awarded $1,000 scholarship for receiving the AL.com Distinguished Diaries during the first night of preliminaries at the 67th Distinguished Young Women National Finals. This award was selected from diary entries written by each participant during their time at National Finals, five of which were published to AL.com.

Following a selection process that began in her home state of Nebraska, Gutzmann began preparing for the 67th annual scholarship program. The program was held at the Mobile Civic Center in Mobile, Ala., and Thursday, June 27 was the first night of preliminaries.

Gutzmann is a graduate of Blair High School. In the fall, she will attend University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Raikes School with plans to become a Theoretical Physics professor. She is the daughter of Christi and Matthew Gutzmann.

The program continues with the second preliminary Friday, June 28, and finals on Saturday, June 29. Scholarship awards will reach $152,500 after presenting awards in scholastics, interview, talent, fitness, and self-expression. National Finals will conclude with the naming of the Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2024.
