Blair golfers play 18 at Tiburon during Gretna Invite

Posted

Blair Bear Mackenzie Storjohann surprised herself with how good her approach shot onto the eighth Great White green at Tiburon Golf Club was Monday morning.
“Oh my God,'” she said as her ball rolled to a stop just feet from the hole during the Gretna Invite.
Tessa Nicholson and Storjohann shot BHS' best scores during the 18-hole tournament, coach Rachel Brown's team's first of the new season. They finished with 102 and 103 strokes, respectively, as the Bears finished tied with Elkhorn for 11th out of 17 teams.
Elkhorn South — led by Ellen Bode's 72 swings — won the Gretna Invite team title, finishing 50-over-par as a group. Omaha Marian was second and Omaha Westside third.
Nicholson's 102 came with consistent bogeys and double bogeys. The senior shot par on the par-4 No. 2 Mako hole and on the par-3 No. 7 Great White hole at Tiburon, too.
Storjohann, meanwhile, shot par on three Mako holes. From Nos. 5-7, she carded just 11 swings across 688 yards.
While they finished 39th and 41st out of 85 golfers, respectively, BHS' Macy Schrad was 48th. She finished with 106 swings, shooting par on two holes.
Sophie Kern, however, took 66th with 116 swings. On one hole, one of her playing partners hit a shot that bounced up off of the cart path and into her bag — a display one coach said she'd never seen.
Diane Mitchell played for Coach Brown at Tiburon, too. She finished tied for 76th with 127 strokes across 18 holes.

Bears host triangular
BHS played nine holes on its home course Tuesday, too, against Plattsmouth and Wahoo.
The Bears won the River Wilds Golf Club triangular, finishing with 229 strokes. Plattsmouth totaled 242, while Wahoo finished with 254.
Kern shot Blair's low score, finishing with 52 strokes, while Nicholson had 55 and Mitchell notched 57. Kaiya Johnson took 65 swings and Quinn Johnson had 69 as well.
BHS also bested Plattsmouth in junior varsity play, 257-298. Lauren Wehrli took 60 swings, while Kora Wehrli had 63, and both Jaydyn Backman and Katelyn Mitchell finished with 67 across nine holes.
Madi Hiles shot a 72, too.
The Bears were scheduled for the Plattsmouth Invitational at Bay Hills Golf Course on Thursday, but will next compete 9 a.m. Monday at River Wilds in a home tourney. Eighteen total teams are expected to attend.
