Nicki Wendt scored match point against Elkhorn on Saturday as the Blair High School volleyball team finished 2-1 during the Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament at Norris.
The Bears lost their first, play-in match against Lincoln Standing Bear, 2-1, but responded with back-to-back 2-0 victories against the Hastings Tigers and Antlers. Coach Jess Lansman's team is 15-13 overall, having matched the school's 2002 win total.
BHS hasn't earned more than 15 volleyball wins in a season since 1997 when it won 17 and qualified for the state tournament.
Madeline Chikos led the Bears with nine kills during its 25-19, 21-25 and 25-16 loss to Standing Bear. Hailey Roewert had 26 set assists and Olivia Wolff notched 15 digs, but it was enough.
Blair rebounded, however, with a 25-29, 25-9 sweep of Hastings during consolation play. Taylor Mostek led the victors with nine kills, while Chikos had three ace serves and Emma Ammon notched four blocks.
Finally, against Elkhorn, Ammon led a balanced attack with five kills, while Roewert totaled 17 assists. Chikos, Mostek and Wendt added four kills apiece, while Wolff led Coach Lansman's team in digs with 11.
Blair goes for win No. 16 at Omaha Christian Academy on Tuesday. The varsity match starts at 6 p.m.
