Conestoga tops FCHS in NCC volleyball tourney play

The second-seeded Conestoga Cougars hosted and defeated the Fort Calhoun High School volleyball team in Nebraska Capitol Conference (NCC) Tournament play Tuesday, 3-0.
The Cougars (18-8 overall) topped coach Liz Sevcik's team 25-18, 25-17 and 25-20. The loss dropped the Pioneers' season record to 8-16 overall.
Despite, the loss Sevcik was positive in noting FCHS' play against one of the NCC's top teams.
“Everyone stepped up and contributed tonight,” the coach said.
Emilee Thayer-Mencke led the Pioneers with 12 kills, while Jordan Faucher notched eight digs and Ari Nelson had three blocks. Their team was scheduled to play a conference consolation match Thursday and next hosts Conestoga on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
