Funeral service for LaVon M. Kettler, 86, of Hadar, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hadar. Rev. Rodney Rixe will be officiating the service. Interment will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hadar. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk.
LaVon passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
LaVon was born on May 12, 1938, in Norfolk, NE, to Herman and Lorena (Heckman) Spreeman. She was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hadar. LaVon attended grade school at a county school in Pierce County, graduating from Pierce High School and receiving her teachers’ certificate. She taught at a rural country school in Pierce County and substitute taught at various schools.
LaVon married Gary Kettler on August 20, 1959, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hadar, NE. After marriage they moved to Maryland where they lived before moving to Pierce and then finally Hadar.
She enjoyed sewing and worked as a tailor for three different places making many dresses. LaVon was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hadar where she was active and held numerous positions. As well as the church ladies aide, Pierce Alumni Planning Committee, Pierce County 4-H Leader and T.O.P.S.
LaVon is survived by daughter Sandra (Les) Mullen of Blair, NE, daughter Shelly (Don) Norland of Bennington, NE; 5 grandchildren: Garrett, Jdon (Samantha), Cody, Charlee, Amarillo; 1 great-granddaughter: Holland; three sisters-in-law: Bev Spreeman of Odessa, MO, Norma Kettler of Norfolk, and Dorathlie Walmsley of Pierce. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Kettler, in 2017, parents Herman and Lorena Spreeman, and brother Wilmer Spreeman.
Casket bearers will be Garrett Koepke, Don Norland, Cody Norland, Tim Koepke, Gary Schuett, and Mike White.
